Over the summer, the PassNPlay Project participated in the Youth Impact Challenge, and we are honoured to have received a grant offer of $1,000 which will be used for our upcoming charity basketball tournament!
In September and October, the PassNPlay Project partnered with Keep Ups for a Kause, an initiative with the goal of providing children in Malawi with access to sports. We collected donated soccer equipment at Upper Canada College over a two-week period. The equipment will be sent to Malawi with the help of Love a Village, a Canadian charity working to break poverty cycles in Malawi communities.
In September and throughout November, our individual team members also participated in school sports coaching programs in sports such as basketball and hockey for Grade 4–5 kids. These experiences give us the chance to bring sports to the next generation and see the joy in kids as they learn to play. We hope to open our own sports coaching sessions one day.
We are also proud to announce a partnership with Youth Assisting Youth to provide sports sponsorship grants for those in need. The partnership will create the Sports Ignite program, where families and kids overcoming financial barriers in sports can apply for micro-grants toward equipment, program fees, team fees, and more.
Lastly, we will run a 1 vs 1 charity basketball tournament at Upper Canada College beginning November 21, 2025. Twelve student athletes will compete in two teams of six for $1,000 in prize money. Half will be donated directly as sports sponsorship grants for families in need, while the other half will be split among the winners.
